Rescuers saved 3,000 migrants in the waters off Libya on Tuesday as they attempted urgently to achieve Europe, a day after a record 6,500 individuals were protected in the Mediterranean.
"Around 3,000 migrants were spared Tuesday amid 30 operations facilitated by the coastguard," the Italian coastguard said in an announcement.
Following a few weeks of relative quiet in the stretch of Mediterranean amongst Italy and Libya, more than 1,100 individuals were safeguarded on Sunday and another 6,500 on Monday.
